What is the one thing that became more clear as you get older? 
I’m waiting for some life lessons, your wisdom, and some collective growing up ❤️

Answer

Dont overthink your life. What others may think of you, or what they think is best for you may not be the case. Down the line their opinions don't mean anything. Just do you and be happy with how you live your life, you only get one after all. And if you wind up not being in the place you thought you'd be thats pefectly fine too. Your finish line isn't on the same timeline as anyone elses.

1. Other people's reactions are NOT your responsibility. It took me 20 years to learn this, largely because I spent that time waiting to see whether certain relatives would change their views about the autism spectrum. They didn't. (I was formally diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at the age of 8.)
2. Feelings keep odd hours. In the wake of my parents' divorce, I've found it necessary to keep my life simple in case my unresolved grief and anger  decide they want to come out and play. In particular, I've found that grief seems to behave like a cat. It comes and goes according to its own schedule, and it doesn't seem to care what you're doing when it arrives. Instead, it says, "I'm here. Pet me." (In fact, one reason I don't date is that I'm still not over the divorce. Looking to the future while I'm still in the past would be a great disservice to me, my future beloved, and the entire process of dating. However, I've yet to find anyone who understands that concept.)
3. Find your work before you find your love. A feminist from Georgia O'Keeffe's youth told her that, and it's one of the truest things I've ever heard. It's another reason I'm not dating. If I did the traditional "dinner and a movie" date, then I'd have to deal with the other person reacting to me as if I were a neurotypical woman, which could very well end badly for me. However, if I found a cause to follow that would allow me to thrive as the autistic woman I am, then I will have a much easier time finding someone who truly understands me. Also, unless you're on a deadline of some kind, there's no reason to rush into anything - especially a relationship. Find a cause, find a job, find a hobby, find something to fill your time with besides a sweetheart. Eventually, the sweetheart will come to you when you're not looking.

That compassion is important in dealing with people. Yes,  even the ones that don't deserve it. Because you are so much happier when you focus on being kind.  Worrying about getting back at people and teaching them lessons only makes you stressed out and bitter. Its much easier to treat everyone with dignity and move on. That does not mean be naive and trust everyone or let people walk all over you. Use discernment and back away from situations that are harmful to your mental health. Its a fine line we all have to navigate. But once you figure out how to be both compassionate and cautious at the same time you will feel so calm in life.

Do not compare where you are to those around you. Everyone progresses and stumbles at their own rate. Life offers a different set of challenges to each of us. Comparing your life or your success or your happiness to that of those around you, will only negatively effect you.
