SCH & Umbilical Cyst: good news story

Meg

I was always searching for positive stories during the past couple months so I’m hoping my journey so far can provide comfort to others in a similar situation. I’m 12+4 today and a FTM and general worrier- I’ll keep this short and to the point. :)

At around 6 weeks I started cramping and bleeding. Fearing the worst I went to the ER and they said it was likely a miscarriage and to come back the next day for an ultrasound (it was closed for the night). They found a heartbeat on the little bean and diagnosed me one small subchorionic hematoma. After a second bleed a week later they diagnosed me with two. By the next ultrasound they had reduced in size and I stopped bleeding. At this ultrasound they found a cyst on the umbilical cord. Even though it’s “not usually of any concern in the first trimester” I worried and feared the worst.

I had my 12 week scan/NIPT test last Thursday and got news today that both bleeds have completely reabsorbed and the umbilical cyst was not seen. When the tech switched to vaginal on the scan I feared there was more bad news to hear but it wasn’t the case and for the first time I feel relieved and excited! The scan showed a happy and healthy growing baby and I’m just amazed at the capabilities of a woman’s body to heal itself.

I know not every pregnancy is a success. I know there are still months to go and anything can happen at anytime. One day at a time and it’s important to celebrate little milestones (for sanity reasons)! I hope my story so far can provide a bit of hope for someone during the first trimester roller coaster that it is. Feeling really grateful today.
