Birth story

Ella
Im a couple days behind but here she is!
Labour for us was sudden and started so fast that I didn't really believe it was true labour... I told my husband I had cramps and that he should download a contraction timer in the morning. An hour later I told him I can't sleep this hurts too much download a contraction timer now. We started timing they were less than 3 minutes apart and lasting about 45-60 seconds! That was at about 11 pm but I was still in denial. I had a bath and they increased in intensity and length. We got to the hospital and were admitted at 330 am I was 5cm and 80% effaced. After a few hours of labouring with walking around the halls I was 7cm and completely effaced. Almost baby time right? We thought so... A few hours later nothing had changed so we got in the bath to try to relax the muscles and feet baby dropping down because she was still quite high. After over an hour in the bath nothing had changed. We did lunges and tried several positions to get her dropping down but she was still so high the the doctor could barely get a finger on her. When they did manage to reach her by doing a pretty intense internal exam they realized she was transverse (turned sideways) and that's why she wasn't dropping. We laboured for another few hours and my cervix actually started to thicken from swelling after having extremely intense contractions for so long. The were a minute long and less than a minute apart for hourssss and very very intense. Also I had extreme back pain from her positioning. Eventually the doctor told me I NEEDED to try some pain meds. We chose the nitrous oxide gas. It helps Presley good for a while but eventually my contractions overcame it. Baby still hasn't dropped and my contractions were getting more intense. Doctor suggested with narxotic pain meds or an epidural to help me relax because at this point the back pain was overwhelming me to the point of nearly screaming through contractions. The epidural took nearly 30 minutes to take full effect aftet which I was able to walk back to the shower for an hour or so and then sleep for about 30 minutes. Still no changes... We were now at about 28 hours. It was at this point that the doctors suggested 2 options:
1) try petocin for an hour to see if the stronger contractions would force baby to drop (but they didn't think it would work and I was worried that if she was in a bad position forcing her down could stress her heart or possible hurt her neck) if the petocin didn't work I would have to have a c section.
2) forget the petocin just go straight to a c section.
We took option 2 because of the reasons mentions above.
This was at 10pm Oct 1. We met out little girl at 12:40 am Oct 2nd and after alllll of that her APGAR score was 9 which is amazing! 💕
She immediately latched and has been nursing perfectly!
We spent 2 nights in hospital and came home oct 4th. Today the community health nurse visited and baby's girl has already gained 100 grams and is just perfect perfect perfect. Feeling so blessed!
I honestly think that if she had not been transverse we would have delivered her without meds or interventions before lunch on October 1st but in the long run I am just greatful for the hospital staff and amazing care we got and of course our beautiful baby girl!
A total of 31 hours of labour, 26 hours of which was active labour. Totally worth it! ❤️
