The LH surge happens about one day before you ovulate. So it's best to have intercourse 24-48 hours after a positive OPK. :) 
Some women will have an LH surge that lasts a little longer, and others will drop their levels off quickly.
Keep in mind that Most tests need to be read at the five minute mark and it is only that reading that matters. The test line can grow darker after the five minute mark and show you a false positive pretty easily. 
(I keep my OPK tests to log them as well, but consider taking a daily picture when they are "fresh" to avoid looking back at a false positive)
