First Time Mom - 5 hour active labor!
My birth story is not at all what I thought it would be... but I figured I would write it out anyways.
On Monday I went to my regular midwife to be seen for my 38 week on the nose appointment. I had been feeling crappy for a few days but I figured “hey you’re 37 weeks of course everything is awful” - turns out I actually felt awful because my blood pressure was through the roof.
I was immediately sent to the birthing pavilion at the hospital and soon after admitted for acute preeclampsia. We spent the rest of Monday learning about preeclampsia and discussing options for induction.
On early Tuesday morning we started the induction train. Finally around 2 PM I was 3 cm and 80% effaced so the midwives broke my water. From there... labor started FAST and furious. It all happened so quickly it was hard to process at 5 PM I told the nurse “I think I’m supposed to be pushing now” she ran to get a midwife who, much to her surprise, agreed it was time to push.
My little Elena Ivy was born at 6:27 PM and she is the most perfect thing I’ve ever seen.
To all you mamas still waiting on your August babies - my heart is with you and I wish you all the best. 💞💞💞💞
