SOS biting toddler!!

My son is 1 year old, and he BITES.

Sometimes it’s because he’s angry or frustrated, other times he’s just kissing you then he bites randomly. He bites HARD. How do we deal with this?

My daughter bit me and I literally just burst into tears. She was so taken aback and she’s never done it again. I think it’s a better way of shocking them and letting them know it hurts without physically showing them.

Every child is different. Mine did it, I bit her back as soon as she did it to me. I never had a problem after that. But... they may not work for everyone. Good luck!

I know some will say to bite back because it shows how it hurts. But to me that's hyprocritcial saying don't bite then biting baby yourself. I would tell him not to bite because it hurts, re direct or set him down when he bites. Walk away for a minute even if you need to. Or try to stop hin before it happens.

I pick my son up and hold him and just talk to him when he’s feeling chomy because in most cases as you said he’s upset or frustrated. When he does it when kissing I will say no thank you, that’s hurts and pull out some of his toys like his blocks and sit down and play blocks with him. I’m not going to yell at him or bite him when he doesn’t know how to communicate yet and when he’s being lovable and bites he doesn’t know what part he did wrong the kissing or the biting. Just acknowledge it let him know it hurts and then redirect his attention so he’s not doing it again. My son is 1 yr as well and it’s really seems to help, he’s bitten hard before and out of pain I’ve yelled but to see his scared baby face and him cry because he doesn’t know what is wrong is why I don’t yell or bite him. He’s way to young to be punishing. That’d be like you punishing a person within mental disabilities, because they don’t have the capacity to yet put two and two together.

My friend’s child was a biter. Not so much anymore! Her parents avoided the bite or headed it off when possible and also said “ow! That hurts!” And asked her not to bite. It’s hard when you know your child is a biter. You have to watch them carefully and vigilantly especially with other children.

My niece was a biter and my sister in law bit her back and it stopped real quick

My daughter tried that and once I bit her back she stopped. Of course I didn't do it enough to leave a mark but hard enough for her to feel it and how it hurts. She never done it again.
