Shortened cervix
I went for my check up at the OB today. The nurse practitioner said that she thinks she knows why I had our daughter early. Before today, we didn’t know why it happened and they always figured it was probably just a bladder infection. But I have been losing my mucus plug 2 to 3 weeks before I started having contractions. And she thinks that means I have a shortening cervix. The cervix is in the shape of a “v” but with it shortening its more like a “u” which can cause premature birth and miscarriages. They took extra blood today when I did my blood work to run test. She said she was going to run as many test as she can. She also wants them to look at the cervical with at my first ultrasound so she can start watching. Someone told me to ask about a cerclage. That’s when they go in and stitch the cervix shit to try to prevent from opening until it’s time to deliver. One lady told me she found out at 24 weeks that her cervix was shortening. She said they put her on modified bedrest and progesterone suppositories and she made it to 31 weeks. It’s just scary because before I even knew anything about this I’ve seen so many people post about it in a preemies group that I’m in on Facebook and they have babies earlier than I had our daughter. I wasn’t as scared for preterm birth this time around because I thought it was just a bladder infection that caused it last time.(they thought I went into preterm last time for a bladder infection, possibly, but they didn’t really know) I figured that was just pretty easily treatable. But now I’m kind of worried and she said not to be but you just can’t I can’t help it. But I’m going to ask about the cerclage next time and see.
Has one who had it before delivered full term without complications? Even without the cerclage? If you didn’t know that was an issue when did you first find out and how many weeks did you deliver at? Is there anything I can do to help right now to try and prevent anything for happening? I’m so worried for our baby.
