Any momma who’ve had there babies, have jaundice?

My baby was born on Friday and just tested positive for jaundice. I’m feelings so overwhelmed and sad right now. Would love to hear other stories.

My son is 5 days old and jaundice, I just keep him by a window and nurse as often as he will let me. He’s been pooping a ton, I’ve never been more excited/happy to change a poopy diaper. lol

We just went through this 2 weeks ago in the hospital with our newborn.  I definitely relate with the emotional side of it. It’s so hard to just have them lay there.  Use the nurses for support and don’t hesitate to call them when you feel uncomfortable with what’s happening.

Both my kids got jaundice but never hit their threshold to have to go back in under the light!  We just had to make sure they were eating lots and we would go outside for 5 minutes a couple times a day/nurse near the window!
It’s extremely common so try not to stress to much! I know that’s easier said than done! My daughter is 2 weeks her skin has cleared up but her eyes are still a little yellow!

My baby was high intermediate after birth and didn’t need the light. I just fed her constantly because the ped told us it passed through waste! I supplemented formula til my milk came in and now am BFing and she’s doing great!

All babies have a level of jaundice, it is just whether or not it is at a safe level to let their body sort it out itself or not. Many babies, especially first/preterm/different blood type from mom babies, need a little extra help from the phototherapy (blue) lights to break it down so their little livers can process it. Having them under the lights can seem scary especially since they tend to dislike it so much but it is the best thing for them and will only last a short while.

My 6 day old is, her pediatrician has me sit her by a sunny window 3 times a day for 20 minutes each time. Plus lots of feedings.

3 of my 4 kids had it to some degree. It cleared up pretty quickly.

My daughter (first child) had it bad, as long as it’s monitored it’s really nothing to worry about. She spent some time under the light while in the hospital. They checked her levels a few times (just a heal stick blood drop) then it wasn’t resolved by the time we were discharged so we were sent home with a blanket that light up with the blue light. Visiting nurse visited a few days then her levels were good, and it was over.
