When to try again

Question

Mamas, how close in age are your kiddos? Could it really cause that much more of a risk to conceive sooner than a year after giving birth?

Answer

I know a lot of women who’ve gotten pregnant within months of having a kid. It’s doable, especially if you’re in good health, but it is MUCH harder on your body, especially depending on your age. I don’t know how much riskier it is per se, but it is harder on you because of the constant flux in hormones. 
That being said, i think every woman I know that has kids that close together (most of them not planned) they say they enjoy that their kids are that close in age. From my experience, the closer the kids are in age, the closer their relationships are growing up, although I’m sure that’s not ALWAYS the case.

My first is 15 months and I’m 38 weeks. My midwives gave me the go ahead at my 6 week pp check up. I had an uncomplicated birth and am healthy. My first took 6 years of trying, 2 losses, many lifestyle changes and a round of clomid. And I’m 35, So we didn’t know how long it would take. It took sex one time in December- not trying but not preventing.

My kids will be 15 months apart. One of my sisters kids is 16 months younger and my other sisters kids are 17 months apart. They didn’t have complications with their pregnancy. It’s a good idea to allow your body and uterus and hormones to return to normal, but it’s doable to have kids close together.
