Other pain relief besides epidural?

Hi mamas!! 
First time mom here so obviously I have soooooo many questions lol we’re all aware of what an epidural is but what are some other pain relief options do they offer/can give you? I’m planning on NOT getting an epidural but also want to see what other options there are 🙏🏼

The epidural is your best bet if you want to be fully present. Anything they can give you through the iv will make you loopy and can make baby loopy as well. I have heard good things about gas but it’s not readily available everywhere yet. If you want to avoid the epidural i would go for gas if you have it available. Other then that a shower, movement, different positions, counter pressure etc.

With my last labor I had Nubain before getting the epidural. It was AWFUL! Made me totally loopy and disconnected from my body. Apparently at one point I was talking with my eyes shut about Australia. I lost my ability to breathe through contractions. In my opinion, if you want pain relief, just go for the epidural.

Ask your hospital what they provide at their hospital.
At my hospital I can get acupuncture, which I’m definitely gonna use.
And they also have a hot tub.

I had something called Pethidine. ITS AMAZING. 
Little injection in your thigh and you feel absolutely wonderful! It made my whole birth experience 90% easier.

I’m curious to hear more too. I think in some places you can get nitrous oxide. I would try that! I don’t think it’s an option at my hospital in Iowa, unfortunately.
You can also get morphine and maybe other things in an IV drip? 
I would love something in between “all natural” and epidural. The best “natural” pain relief I had was a hot shower on my back. I could have stayed in there forever. Luckily baby came out about 5 min after I got out.

I just learned in my birth class that aside from the epidural, they can offer nitrous oxide gas and also the fentanyl drip.
She emphasized to try the gas first because if you don’t like it and it doesn’t work (I’ve seen most people say it doesn’t work because it’s so low dose), it’s out of your system as soon as you exhale. Whereas if you get the fentanyl and it doesn’t work, you need to wait like three hours before you can try the gas because it’s intravenous.
