Is it tacky?

I am nearly 27 weeks pregnant and so far I haven't heard a single thing about a baby shower. Is it rude or tacky to ask my mom or mother in law if they were planning on throwing me a party? Im not trying to be selfish but it's our first baby and we could really use the help!

I don’t think it’s rude to ask. I’d just say “hey has anyone said anything about a baby shower for (yourbaby)?” Depending in what they say you can go from there

Here in the UK it's not super common for baby showers period. It's I guess just starting to take off. So the ones that have been here that I'm aware of have been thrown by the pregnant lady themself.
I guess it's a cultural thing, but I'm really not down with having a baby shower. I can't stand being the centre of attention and the though of everyone cooing when baby isnt here yet makes me cringe. But each to their own - like I said, cultural differences. I'm sure my native American husband would miss the baby shower as it's part of his culture too...I just can't do it.

I think you’re fine to bring it up.  Sort of a “is anyone planning a shower?  If not I want to get started on planning one myself.”  I’m 33 weeks and JUST got a date for my shower yesterday but I was happy not to have one 😂

I’m pretty sure it’s normal to organise your own baby shower, from where I’m from anyway.. it was your choice to have the baby, no one else’s, I don’t think people are obligated to throw you a party and spend their money to do so. It’s not something I would expect my friends or family to do for me. It’s my baby, my responsibility

If you would do one yourself if they don't, you can approach it that way. That you're thinking of having one, what do they think? Maybe they'll then offer to do it for you knowing you want one, or help with things like food, the cake etc. But if you wouldn't really do one yourself then that may backfire lol
