Should a woman make a man a plate of food all the time?

My family had this discussion after my cousin had (which he had expected) his mother make him a plate of food instead of getting it himself which he was 100% capable of doing.

Surely whoever cooked the food serves it onto plates for the number of people eating? 
Unless it's a serve yourself buffet or bowls of food on the table kinda thing. In which case everyone would serve themselves.

I generally make my husband's plate when I cook dinner just so all of the portions are correct. But let's say we're at a BBQ or the holidays with family, he makes his own damn plate. He's an adult with fully functioning arms and hands.

Honestly I don’t really worry about it. Sometimes I make my bfs plate, sometimes he makes mine. Sometimes we only make our own plates and the other person makes their own 🤷‍♀️ 
But tbh if he full on expected me to make him plate, like it was a standard for me, then we’d have a problem. I do it cos I want to, it’s how I express love and care, but the second a guy makes it a rule then that’s not okay and I won’t do it anymore. Me doing that stuff is a gift, and when it becomes an expectation, I feel like my actual love is becoming something that he controls, it’s no longer mine. It feels like someone demanding or ordering me to love them. Maybe that’s just me and I’m reading too much into it but 🤷‍♀️
