I did research and felt more comfortable with a midwife, obgyns aren’t exclusively trained for pregnancy and birth but midwives are, so I felt better. I used a midwife at a hospital twice and this time I’m using a midwife at a homebirth (I’ve read reviews on her before hiring her). It’s whatever you feel is best after doing your own research. I also wanted a natural labor and birth so I wanted someone more experienced with that.

Can someone answer my question please. If you have a midwife is that in replace of an OB? Is a midwife an OB? Can a midwife do your ultrasounds and your appointments and stuff? I never understood. I thought midwifes were for support and stuff and you would have an OB also, but it sounds like a midwife can do everything?

Midwives treat childbirth as an act of nature and doctors treat it as an act of medicine. My doctors office offers both. I had an appointment with a midwife and a doctor and then decided. I went with the doctor. The midwife was a little too kookie for me. And personally, I want all the pain meds I can get.

I use an OB because I have medical issues and need to have my blood checked regularly and could need special monitoring and stuff. Makes me feel safer to have an OB watching me instead

Had a bad experience with a midwife in my city. Turns out she been cited a few times and she was very rude to my husband. Took me everything not to punch her in the face
