Is she overreacting? MIL took her baby

I honestly don’t think so. I mean it’s a very strong reaction but she walked into their home in the middle of the night and snatched their baby, that poor girl was petrified someone stole her fucking baby.

WTF. I would’ve called the cops on the MIL. She literally kidnapped the baby when her daughter in law told her no many times. The fact that she waited til they were sleeping, snuck in, stole the baby — and didn’t tell anyone about it until she was back at her own home? That is extremely messed up. 
However as to go as far as divorcing her husband over this, she needs to calm down. She’s starting to take it out on her husband and its not her husband’s fault. It’s his mother, so I understand him having mixed emotions and not wanting to completely lose his relationship with his mother, however I think she should sit him down and express the gravity of what happened. If he still didn’t realize how serious an offense that little stunt she pulled was, I’d take him to counseling and discuss the issue and that he needs to realize his wife and child are priority and his mother needs to back the fuck off. 
I would also clearly state that I was still not opposed to filing a police report, and in order not to I expected not to see the MIL until I calmed down and she was ready to admit what she did was wrong and fucked up, and that the MIL was to have no contact with the baby at least until that point. 
A child is yours to protect. The MIL abused her power and the trust of having a house key. Sure, maybe her intentions were pure, but she was very mislead into thinking that was a good idea. Until she’s ready to back off and apologize, I wouldn’t care if the husband talked to her, but me and the kids would be staying far away and she would not be welcome in the home. 
And honestly I still might file a police report

Divorce, no. However I would have immediately changed the locks and if that was refused I would have taken my baby and left to go stay at a hotel or a friends house until I felt safe to return home. That MIL is psycho and deserves to be turned into the cops, after being decked in the face 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would honestly charge the MIL with kidnapping and she would NEVER see that child again. 
I wouldn’t immediately jump to divorce, but if my husband didn’t back me up it would probably come to that, especially if he tried to keep his mother in our child’s life. I absolutely could not forgive that MIL.

I think her reaction towards her husband is extreme but not towards her MIL. She kidnapped her child! That is never and will never be okay!
At least her husband said that they needed to take their key back from his mom. That’s super reasonable. His mom invaded their privacy and should lose that privilege.

Not the husband's fault. Shes overreacting toward him. But as for the mil, I would have called the police and showed them the proof that she took the baby. Sorry gamgam... no you wont be seeing our daughter for a very long time.

I wouldn’t divorce my husband BUT that is not okay at all, I would have called the police. That is actually kidnapping and totally unforgivable. I would be getting the locks changed ASAP. That mother is going to have a lot of issues and anxiety because this situation happened

I think she is overreacting a tad.
I mean, I get it. If any situation excuses over reactions it is something like this..
And I would definitely take the key. I would definitely not allow grandma in my home or to be around the child at all. I'd probably get an order of protection against her, at least for a while.
But to divorce her husband for not feeling the same way about his own mother makes me think, yeah, hormones are playing a big role here. I mean, would she react the same way if it was her own mother that did this? Would she react this strongly? If not then I think she cannot fault her husband for not reacting as strongly towards his own mom, either.
