Push feedings to 2 hours apart?
For background, my daughter is 2 weeks and 3 days old. She was born pretty lean (6lbs 11oz, but 21 inches long), and dropped to 6 lbs 6oz before we left the hospital. But by 3 days old she had gained 2 oz back.
By 10 days old she was 7lbs 5oz, so she’d gained 13oz in a week. She has no problem eating, and I haven’t had any issues with underproduction (we are actually working through an oversupply issue).
But, she still wants to eat every 1.5 hours (or less), including during the night. I’m sleep-deprived and my nipples hurt. Her pediatrician recommended pushing her feedings gradually to 2 hours apart for my sanity.
I know LCs generally recommend breastfeeding on demand, but she’s surpassed her birth weight, continues to gain well, and I’m going slightly crazy over here.
What do y’all think? Is it reasonable to try to shift her to a 2 hour gap?
