Will this ever end?

Question

My daughter is 9 months and she doesn't sleep longer than 3 hrs wakes up screaming. She eats 3 meals a day and snacks! She breastfeed on demand. Goes down at 7:30 she always goes down smoothly but wakes up wanting to breastfeed several times a night. Not sure what to do. Any advice? What worked for you or how you cope with disrupted horrible sleep.

I could have wrote this! And I have no idea what to do. My little goes down at 7:30 every night and wakes up at 11, 1, 3, 5, 6. He just wants to comfort nurse back to sleep. I am okay with nursing once or twice in the night but this has gotten out of hand lol. He will be 9 months on the 29

Sounds awful but just stop offering when she wakes in the middle of the night. By 9 months babies don’t really need to be eating in the middle of the night. Had the same problem with my son. So a few weeks ago we stopped offering milk in the middle of the night when he woke. Offered water in case he was thirsty, gave him his pacifier, changed diaper if super wet or dirty and laid him back down. He cried for a while for a couple of nights in a row but then started sleeping through the night again.

sleep training, 12 hrs in the crib takes me 5 min to put her down for a nap, if she isn’t quite sleepy enough yet she will just talk in her crib until she falls asleep! she wasobile when we sleep trained would sit up in her crib but it’s at the lowest setting so it was fine! we put her a sleep sack but she can still crawl around and stuff

It is developmentally normal for a baby to wake up multiple times a night. I know it doesn’t feel that way though 😬. My wee boy was waking loads (ebf) but has gone back to 2/3 times. 8-10 months is a very difficult time for babies sleep wise as they are learning so many new skills - it is the worse time to sleep train. If you are happy just waiting it out it will start to get better - Sarah Ockwell-Smith has brilliant advice on sleep in her book and the beyond sleep training project on Facebook is fantastic if you are avoid sleep training!!!

She is probably waking up because of breastfeeding on demand. So I suggest just cutting out one feeding during the night every few nights. So, slowly eliminate the feedings. Right now she is addicted to the boob! Lol. She will cry at first while you are eliminating feedings, but eventually will sleep through. 
She seems to be eating a well balance diet throughout the day, so it’s likely she isn’t even hungry at night. This is the case with lots of babies. They know we will wake up once they start crying and they know we will cave in and feed them.
My son has been sleeping 10-11 hours each night then randomly was waking up at 3am or 4am. I always fed him and just put him back to bed. Then I went away for a weekend and he stayed with my parents. My mom put him to sleep in the pack and play and said he slept through and never woke up for a feeding (and she is a super light sleeper so she would’ve woke up if he made a peep) . It’s almost like he sensed I wasn’t there and there was no one to wake up lol. So maybe also put your LO in her own room or opposite side of your room

So my guy had his 9 month appointment today and I asked his pediatrician basically this very same question. She said basically don’t breastfeed him unless it’s been at least 6 hours. It might cause some crying at first but after a few nights he will get the hint that you aren’t gonna just nurse him back to sleep. So my plan is to just hold him and walk with him until he’s almost to sleep again then put him back in his crib. Another idea a friend of mine did, and my pediatrician said this is fine to do too, is when her baby would wake in the night she would offer her a bottle of water instead of formula. Eventually she realized she wasn’t going to get what she wanted and started sleeping longer stretches.
