First C-Section

Jasmine

Hi ladies! Well I have just been scheduled for my first c-section for sep 4th. I am extremely nervous yet excited. This is my third pregnancy but little one just could not get out of breech position. I was wondering if any of you ladies have any advice? Your experiences? Any information would be great!

Underwear! Make sure you dont have a seam over your scar area- you can also get compression underwear that helps with pain. Make sure you have plenty of pain killers at home and use lots of pillows to make yourself comfortable at home when you get home

I will be going for my 3rd c section on September 19th and 39+2.First was emergency, second was planned, and same with third. Advise, pack extra clothes in your hospital bag, enough items for a few days. Make sure you clothes are loose fitting as you'll have swelling. Be prepared to be sore for a while. It is very convenient to have a baby bed that is level with your own bed. I like using a bassinet. If you have to cough, it really does help to hold a pillow on your belly. Be prepared to not be able to lift anything, not even the car seat until cleared by Dr at 6 week check up. Planned C-sections go so much smoother than an emergency C-section, but either was they will always explain everything to you. Keep up with the pain meds that you are given, take them when next dose is due, then by wait until you feel pain, it is very important to keep you pain managed!! I'm trying to think of it I forgot anything...

Thank you! I was really hoping she would be able to turn but she is so big! Its my first major surgery and I’m trying to keep myself calm and trust that the staff and my doctor will keep us safe. I feel like I’m overreacting lol so many emotions

Don’t go straight to solid foods right afterwards. My doc gave me the ok and I was so miserable. I had so much gas pain because nothing was moving. I had more pain from the gas than the procedure. One of the nurses was quite upset for me that he said I could have a regular diet right away. 😖

Gas pain was bad for me even in hospital and meds weren’t helping. What DID help was laying over the side of the bed with a pillow under my belly and butt in the air, with slight pressure on belly. Embarrassing because my dad walked in right when I got relief but it really helped pass the gas.

The nurse said liquid broths and such. Gradually, go into more solid foods. She told me to remember that when you are numb from the c-section it shuts down your entire digestive system. Takes a while to start back up again.

What would be the best foods to start with? Ugh vaginal birth was so easy for me! Lol I was able to eat what I wanted and thankfully go with no problems 😥

Apple juice was my best friend! It’ll help regulate everything. Also don’t force yourself past your pain limits. And take your medicine on time every time, even if you feel “fine” because it will definitely catch up with you quicker than you anticipate and you go from being good to being in tears. My first was an emergency section and I was dying to be a mom and be active but my body wasn’t 100% ready yet and so I pushed a little too hard and ended up on antibiotics for a week after my first checkup. It was horrible. Also, showers help and make you feel refreshed. Take advantage of being in the hospital and try to indulge in a lukewarm shower (not hot or you’ll pass out.). It helps your muscles and helps you feel normal. ❤️
