How much time off are you and your partner taking?

We are from Canada and I get a full year of maternity leave (but probably won’t use it all) and my husband got six weeks. I was curious as to what it’s like in other countries!

My husband works for BOA. Every time he has a child or adopts he gets 4 months fully paid off. Last pregnancy he went back early because his checks were short due to not getting his bonus. He got a promotion so he plans on taking the full 4 months off. I’m a stay at home mom.

I’m in Norway. Both parents together are entitled to 49 weeks of combined leave, paid at 100% of their salaries (not including the 2 weeks right after birth that a father is allowed to take also). The mother is mandated 18 weeks. The father is mandated 15 weeks. The rest of the weeks (16) can be split as the couple chooses. We are also entitled to the same 25 day vacation time you are entitled to when you are working. I will be combining paid leave, unpaid leave, and vacation to allow me to take from late November 2019 until beginning of January 2021 off before returning to my job.

Just to clarify because I think it’s a bit of a common misconception - a year long maternity leave in Canada is not fully paid. The payments you receive during maternity leave are equal to 55% of your salary to a maximum salary of $53,000 Canadian (around $40k USD or £32k GBP). This means that if you’re a high earner, your maternity leave payments can be less than 20% of your normal salary, which makes it difficult to keep paying bills you were used to paying before mat leave. Accordingly, many people in Canada still don’t feel they can afford to take a year long leave. Our situation is light years better than in the US, but we could also still use improvement.

In the states most of us dont get paid maternity leave sadly. Im full time mom of 4 due with twins my husband can take a week off its all we can afford. This will be my 5th c section too

8 weeks using sick days and then 4 weeks unpaid. My husband is self employed so however many days we can manage without his income

I took off 12 weeks unpaid. I had short term disability insurance that paid me 60% of my salary for 6 of  the weeks, and I had to use my saved up vacation time to get paid for the other 6 weeks. I honestly wish I could have had another 12 weeks, but I’m in the US. 🤷🏼‍♀️ and I’m one of the fortunate ones who has STD insurance and enough vacation time saved up.

I don't have a job currently, but my husband is a civil engineer and will have to use his PTO when the baby comes, he doesn't get paternity leave. I'm in the US

In the USA and I took 7 weeks unpaid leave. My husband used 1 week of vacation. There isn’t any federal or state requirement for companies to provide any paid maternity leave. We can legally take up to 12 weeks unpaid under FMLA without risk if losing our job.

Im in the US, self employed so its pretty flexible on my end as I need it I can take time off. My hubs gets 6 months 100% paid paternity leave from his job which is awesome.

I’m in canada as well but I’m a stay at home mom. My husband will have a week off full pay and then back to work. He’s a team leader in a very busy factory so they kinda need him back and we also need the full pay checks
