Opinion on Blood Sugar Levels

Joanna

So, I will start with some background. My 1 hour fasting with my 1st daughter was a ~9mmol, causing me to take the second 2hr test which I passed (I also threw up what was left of that terrible drink on the way home out of the car door). Fast forward to this pregnancy, my 1 hour test was an 11mmol, 0.1 below GD diagnosis. I had bad morning sickness before I went for the 2 hour fasting (dry heaving in the toilet) and threw up before the 1 hour blood draw. My Dr. decided to just refer my to the GD clinic...

So, I was given a meter, and told to limit my carbs at each meal. Since I never actually failed the second test, I thought I would eat normally for a day or two to really see what my numbers are... So far I have not exceeded the limit of 7.8mmol, except for once (right after I got home from the clinic). I tested at an 8, after a meal that I later calculated had almost 75g of carbs....(sweet potato stew with white rice and a glass of milk ooops!)

I am just wondering what you ladies think... Is my diagnosis right? If I have GD shouldn't I test higher than a 7.3mmol after a bowl of homemade macaroni and cheese with white pasta? Most of my numbers are even lower than that - it was my highest. I usually hit about a 6.5 mmol after a meal (even one with two slices of bread or a bun).

I have tested after 2 hours to make sure I am not missing my peak. I have tested with and without "milking" my finger for blood. One day I took 11 readings just to make sure I wasn't missing anything...

I just want to know because with a vegetarian husband, and a picky eating toddler, trying to watch every little thing I eat is going to be a nightmare!!!

If you made it this far... Thank you!!!!
