Blood sugar levels!

Help! I've only been monitoring my blood sugar levels for a few days now. For lunch today I had a whole wheat pita with humas, cottage cheese and grape tomatoes when I checked my 1 hr fasting level it was 7.4 (133) it's still just under my limit but it's the highest number I've gotten so far and I dont understand why? I did let myself get a bit hungry and forgot to have my morning snack, could that be why? Or is it because I didn't have enough protien? For dinner I had a whole wheat pita pizza with cheese and pepperoni and my 1 hr reading was 5.6 (101) so I dont think it could've been the pita? any advice/info is greatly appreciated!
