PCOS ttc#1 advice

I am feeling pretty discouraged with the process so far. I haven't received a positive ovulation test this week but thought I felt cramps. There hasn't been a spike in my bbt, fertile window ends tomorrow.I was diagnosed with Pcos from my doctor who did basic lab work but no ultra sound. I am on metformin. My insurance doesn't cover fertility treatment and I really want a more thorough work up to know if I ovulate. We've been trying for about 5 months seriously tracking for 3 months. Any suggestions on next steps? Should I see an ob? Fork out the money to see a reproductive endocrinologist?
