Should me and my boyfriend get a joint bank account if we have a baby on the way?

We are both good with money. Just trying to figure out a way to save for our baby.

You’re not married. Absolutely do not mix your money. If you want to share expenses do that but don’t put yourself in a position where someone else has the freedom to spend your money without consulting you. Even if you’re married you should think twice about joining your accounts. I believe in love and trust and all that but I also believe in being practical.

My husband and I have had a joint bank account since we were dating, and we werent even dating long. We were paying bills together and everything so it made sense to us.

I say yes, with reservations tho. Keep an account for yourself and keep an account for him separately. Both of you contribute to the joint account for the baby and/or bills and such, so then everything is taken care of, no problems financially, and you can both spend the rest of your money on stuff you guys want/want to do. For example, my husband and I would do that, all bills/groceries/baby stuff came out of the joint account, but if I wanted to get my nails done or if he wanted to go to a baseball game, we would use the funds from our personal accounts for that. I liked that because it makes me feel independent and I don’t feel guilty having to ask if we have enough money in the account for me to get my hair or nails done, I am assured all bills and essentials are paid and I can do what i please with the rest :)
