Am I being dramatic?

My boyfriend and I are buying a car Friday. He’s paying for the down payment and such. But we initially agreed both of our names would be on it, and our car salesman said that we could. But now, we just got in a huge fight bc he only wants it in his name bc he said all of his family told him to basically cover his ass just in case we break up and also that it’d help his credit. I want my name to be on it so he can’t use it to control me by saying something like “well it’s my vehicle, your name is no where on it” or something like that. He got yelling mad over it. Like why can’t both our names be on it and help us both out? Why does he only get to be the one who has his ass covered? It isn’t fair. Am I being dramatic by feeling so pissed off and hurt by this?

He's being smart. He is the one paying for it so it should be in his name so that it works on his credit and so in the event of a breakup he doesn't get screwed and end up buying you a car. If you want all say over the vehicle then you need to get your own

It depends on how much the down payment is and how much you’ll both be contributing monthly. If it’s only a $500 down payment and you’ll be contributing equally, it should be in both of your names. But if it’s a considerable down payment, I’d say he’s being smart.

Well come up with a contract. Figure out how much it will be monthly and then write down how much you agree to pay and that in the event you guys don’t work out he gets the car, both sign with a notary.. BAM everyone’s covered

Well since he’s paying the down payment then it should be in his name. Are y’all both going to be making equal payments? Is he going to be making all the payments? Are you going to make all the payments? If he’s paying it all and you’re barely gonna help then his name should be on it. If y’all both pay for it equally then both should be on it.

If you’re going to be making equal payments for it, then it should be in both of your names. If you’re just chipping in when you can, I’d understand your bf wanting to only have it in his name. 
He’s not controlling you if he’s paying for the car, it’s his car lol
