Is the hook up culture bad?

I am posting it here because I do realize I can post in controversy corner, as well as a few others and it just doesn't fall under the top of sex and relationships, but I am not looking for a debate or controversy. I feel as if some just use it as a way to tear others down instead of trying to get inside their head and I'm not trying to do that. Get inside your head, yes, but not tear you down and tell you that your opinion is wrong.

I have a paper due in Sociology on the hook up culture and I have to develop my own argument. I already know my stance but I am curious to see how everyone else's thought process works on this. Is the hook up culture empowering to woman, or degrading? Why?

I think it's empowering. Sex doesn't always need a connection. Sometimes you just need to get fucked and no one should be shamed or feel bad for that. Although with that being said, I 100% advocate for safe sex if the people involved do not want/are not ready for children, STIs, or the alike.

I think it's different person to person, but from what I've heard most people seem to use casual sex to fill some sort of psychological hole in there lives and seem to regret it afterwards. so based solely off that and what I've heard with no personal experience at all, I'd say it's not the best thing, but I hesitate to say it's both a culture and a 100% bad thing!

I have to tell you, now that I'm older, I see just how damaging it is. I've seen the regret. Most hook-ups happen after drinking and was not something that they would've done sober. With myself along with friends it so extremely damaging. I've also seen men get heart broken from it, thinking it was going to turn into a relationship and it didn't. It's unhealthy, especially over time, for both sexes, for most people. Of course there's always the exception. But if you where to follow that person over 20 years, you'd see a lot of depression and loneliness.

I don't see it as either or. Everyone enjoys sex (just about) and rather they want it with one or with several it doesn't matter as long as everything is consensual.

Every person is different, but I refuse to hook up and see the damage it can cause and it is dangerous. I have lost track of the number of guys that have asked me to hook up right after meeting or that is the first thing they ask in a message saying hello. I make it quite clear that I don't hook up and they stop talking to me. It is hard finding a guy in my area that is looking for a relationship  and not just a hook up.

Yes and no. Everyone should find pleasure in being with whoever they want, but unless you are going to require a paper showing proof of no std's, then you have a very high risk of getting them. So it can be fun, but dangerous.

For ME! I regret having a few hook ups in my past. I was depressed and used sex to fill this piece I felt was missing. Never found it because obviously sex doesn't make up the void you feel in life. I wish my husband was the only one I had sex with but can't take it back. So for my experience I feel like hook ups is a common thing and you are taught in society that sex is everything and sex is how you get a guys attention. So that's my opinion. I hope this answers your question if it's not even close ignore my comment lol

There's two types of sex: sex because you love the person and sex because sex feels fucking great. And you don't have to feel bad about either. NOTHING is wrong with either of those if you're in a good mental place and using protection as warranted.
