Boyfriend Playing Up

My boyfriend always acts distant towards me. Sometimes he doesn't want to talk to me or see me, but whenever he messes up and I'm about to break up with him he will start crying and say how sorry he is and how much he loves me, so I decide to stay with him. He will be all lovey dovey with me for a day or two and then go back to being distant. Is he just manipulating me so I stay with him?
