Many women experience contractions here and there for weeks as the cervix thins and you slowly dilate. I was 50% effaced and 2 cm dilated at 36 weeks when I was first checked. I stayed that way until I was induced at 40 weeks, on my due date. I experienced some cramps/contractions on and off around 30-32 weeks which I assume is when I originally thinned and dilated but made no more progress after that. It seems to be relatively common. Of course if you continue to experience regular or increasing contractions, go to L&D to be checked out.

How intense and close is the contractions? How long have they been going on? 
Those are the key questions to ask yourself to know if it’s false or real.
Also, if they start out close together it’s basically false labor.
