Help with BBT!

This morning when I woke up I took my bbt (I'm new to this) I took the first temperature under my Tongue it read 96.8 then I took another temperature under my arm it read 97.9 I heard that your suppose to add a degree so that should be 98.9 but I'm so confused.. can someone help me understand this??
