Bumpers? Yes or no?

Question

I always thought crib bumpers were safe but have recently read that they too can be a suffocation risk. I've asked for mesh bumper type things that aren't stuffed and completely breatheable because I still have concerns about baby girl getting an arm or leg stuck in the crib. What is everyone else doing?

I probably won't do a bumper, also terrified of SIDS. A girlfriend of mine recommended a Snuza, it's supposed to buzz the baby if he or she isn't breathing and if the baby doesn't immediately start breathing again it sends out a loud alert noise. A girlfriend of mine had it for her little one and it would go off at least once a month and when her daughter turned two the doctor diagnosed her with sleep apnea. Snuza very well could have saved her life!

We're not doing them. I'm too terrified of SIDS (worst case scenario without bumpers--broken bones heal). Besides, bumpers aren't cheap!

I don't bother. None of my kids ever got a leg or arm stuck and had it result in anything more than a quick cry and correction. Not even bruises. SIDS is my biggest fear after they're born and I, personally, would rather imagine (i mean worst case scenario) a broken limb than SIDS. Even if the bumper didn't cause it, I'd never quit blaming myself if they happened to have them and die in their sleep. I already wake up at every sigh and movement and get up to look at them; the last thing i need motivating my fear is the imagery of them suffocating in a bumper while I'm trying to get a nap in at 7am. Lol

No regular bumper for us. We bought the special individual ones for the crib slats. We ordered them from the website go mama go . They are a little pricy but they have sales all the time

No bumpers here, they increase the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Taking every measure possible to help prevent that risk. I recommend the same thing to all my patients.

I still use the stuffed bumpers. While baby's very little I just make sure to center them in middle of crib and put one of those triangle positioned in there to keep them still. I also have a video monitor to watch them. When they get older and can use bumpers as a step to climb out of crib I take them off.

I had one of the Breathable Baby mesh bumpers with my 2.5 year old when he was a baby because he had a couple twisted ankles and really badly bruised arms from sticking his limbs through the crib. It's hard enough to get your newborn to sleep longer periods of time, let alone having them wake up screaming from almost breaking an arm. My son never had any issues once we put the mesh bumper up, and he never had any breathing issues with it either. It was a savior and a game changer for us! 🙌🏼
