If marriage is really important to you, how long would you stay with your partner without getting married?

Just curious when you would walk away if your partner hasn’t made the ultimate commitment to you?

To me, it’s not a time thing, it’s a mutual goal thing. If the guy had the same goals to get married (such as my current relationship/now married but took 6 years) - then I wouldn’t walk away. But if he was not proposing bc marriage wasn’t important to him and he didn’t care that it was important to me - then I’d walk, not because of the time but because we don’t have the same goals for the future.

I’d have walked away after about 3 years with no proposal.  By that point, you know whether or not that person is the one for you. Not into wasting time. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'd say 4-5 years. If the relationship isn't progressing to the next stage then there's no point in staying.
 I'm not about to be someone's little girlfriend forever. I am a (future) wife. 
I knew since I was a child that marriage is important to me and I'm not budging on it.

I wanted to get married after 2 years of being with my now husband. I knew he was the one from the minute I saw him. He didn't propose until almost 5 years of being together and we got married when we were together for 6 years. As long as you know he wants to get married some day and your wants are aligned, all you can do is wait for him to be ready.

No. It’s just a piece of legality on paper and actually fairly archaic. My husband did propose and we got married but it took 10 years! Love is far more important to me.

I would say 2 years provided that you’re both out of school. If he hasn’t proposed and set a date by then and marriage is important to you, it’s time to move on.

5 years was my limit but we have a child now so ASAP, I have insurances on them and need dad to be able to receive them with no question asked

There’s no right or wrong answers. So many factors go into it.
 But for me, it was 3 years. I saw so many of my friends wait around for years after moving in together, and being fed excuse after excuse, I didn’t want that. We had no issues, financially stable and we talked about marriage then kids constantly. He surprised me and proposed just before the 2 year mark, and we were married 11 months later.

I don't think it is the time frame that matters but the actual relationship and both your goals and the reasonings on when you should consider getting married. Have good communication with him about it. 
Really marriage isnt that important to me I could go with or without it. I still plan and act on as being with my man forever (over 5 years now). I mean if the idea of marriage is to be together forever why does it matter how long it take to make it official. If I do get married I feel like it is going to be more like how my parents did there wasn't really a proposal they just agreed to get married and picked out my mom's ring together (they've been married well over 30 years now).
