Hate getting blood drawn-any tips?

I have always hated getting blood drawn (and never do voluntarily) and typically pass out right after. I’ve also passed out in the middle of getting an IV before so I’m super nervous for all the upcoming blood tests. Anyone else deal with this and have any tips on how to prep/get through it successfully?! 😫

I watch it. The fear and pain for me are in the not knowing when it will happen. When I genuinely focus on them doing it I know that it doesn’t actually hurt enough to cry or anything.

I tell them up front I need them to talk to me about anything, just noise to cover up them switching vials and such. I don’t look, and once I find someone who does a great job I try to go back to them every time.

I would bring your phone and watch videos that make you laugh rather than what’s happening. Or if your fear comes from the unknown, ask them to explain what they’re going to do thoroughly so you know what to expect.

Ask to lay down. Drink juice  before you go

Ask if they have a place to lay down. It should help a lot. And focus on breathing!

I faint when I get needles all the time!! I just let them know I faint & they lay me down and don’t let me get up until I feel & look better. Usually my face goes sooo white so as soon as they can see I’m getting colour back in my face they let me go

I wasn’t feeling well being pregnant and all  and definitely passed out for the first time ever during my blood draw today. It really helps if the person drawing your blood talks to you about anything! I was embarrassed but figured they see this all the time. Had a juice box and a 15 min wait and I was good to go.

I can’t look-ever-and I can’t talk to people. I have to just concentrate on my breathing and ask they count to me when they do the stick. I pick a spot usually on the ceiling, and stare at it. After the initial stick I do better but I can’t look at it, even after it’s done. 
Now, with this first blood draw, I have lots of morning sickness so I will probably need a trashcan nearby. 🙄embarrassing.

I don’t watch and squeeze the ball with my other hand while they put in the needle. It’s also helps to just make small talk with the person taking your blood to take your mind off of it.
