Do you ask your SO when you make an unplanned purchase?

Just curious if you ask your SO before you decide to purchase something unplanned. Like today I went and bought a few things and picked up some stuff for my husband as well. I texted him and asked him if he cared if I spent about $50 on some clothes. He said nope not at all. 
To me, it’s not about asking for permission to buy something, it is just how marriage works. If you share a bank account the other person should know if you’re going to buy something that wasn’t planned in the monthly budget. My husband saved up and worked overtime to buy a new bow to hunt with this year and he still asked me 15 times if it was okay if he bought it, if we were gonna have the money. 
Maybe it’s a certain amount? I feel like my limit is $30-40 without having to mention it, anything over that should be discussed to make sure there aren’t any pending charges or things they don’t know about.

No only big things, I would feel stressed if I couldn't buy myself something without asking first

We ask each other when it’s bigger things like furniture, appliances, technology, etc. - stuff that costs a few hundred dollars or more but not for things like clothes, shoes, eating out, etc. we have our own separate bank accounts as well as a shared account for expenses like our mortgage, groceries and bills. He contributes more to this at the moment as I’m working part time but I was previously contributing more as I earned more. Neither of have expensive taste- we’re not buying designer shoes or anything.

We’re the same. I always ask before I make a purchase, he always tells me to stop asking for things I need, but that’s not the point. I feel it’s respectful to ask, he works hard for our money and I don’t want him to see it disappear without knowing.

Not if it’s clothes or consumables. Or plants or toys. We only check with large purchases actually, or something that relates to each other.

We have a joint account specifically for bills. I’m in charge of the budget because he’s a horrible spender. We allow ourselves “fun” from each check. He can buy whatever he wants with his fun money as can I. When it comes to BIG purchases we do check with each other ($100 +). Usually all bill money is accounted for when we have left over “fun” money.

Yup , we live paycheck to paycheck at the moment and even little purchases are discussed between us . budgeting is hard, youve got to be on the same page .
