Thoughts on Sweeps?

Question

I'm 40+4, the midwife mentioned 3 weeks ago at my appointment I would be offered the Sweep at my next appointment which is today. What are your thoughts on Sweeps?

I was for having one but found out yesterday an old friend refused one and she was overdue.

I've to be induced on Monday 19th (I'll be 41+3).

I know its a touchy subject for some... But, I think it seems better to have your membranes swept in an attempt to let your body go in to labor naturally then to be pumped with pitocin- or whatever they will do to induce labor. 
I don't see the harm.

I've had that done my past 3 pregnancy. Every time I end up going into labor that night after the appointment and then having a baby by morning.  I plan to have it done this pregnancy as well.  In my opinion it's better than having my body pumped with pitocin.

I had mine done on Wednesday. It didn't hurt one bit and there was only a tiny bit of brown blood and my mucus plug and out the next day. Honestly what's the harm if your overdue it's not going to hurt anything .

I've had 2 done. One at 38w and one at 40w. At 38w one I lost a part of my mucus plug I think the day after, at my last one I haven't had any change and I've still only been dilated 1cm and now I am 40w4d. I see my ob on the 15th to have an ultrasound done to check fluid levels and to discuss induction. I'm hoping to get the gel because I can labor naturally but it seems I don't dilate naturally.

I had one done at 39 weeks. Had some cramping and spotting, but didn't really do much. I didn't find it anymore uncomfortable then the normal check (which I find to hurt) but was over quickly. Might as well try! It only works if your body/baby is ready.

I'm 40 weeks today and I have an appointment Monday morning with my midwife. The ONLY reason I'm considering waiting until my Thursday appointment to get swept is because my godson's birthday is Monday and no one (myself, my bf, or my godson's parents) wants them to share a birthday. I want my son to have his own special day. I'll probably see if I'm dilated...if so, how far...and go from there. Since it's an out of hospital birth, I do need to have this boy before the 42 weeks since my midwife won't legally be allowed to see me past that.

I had it done at 39/6, my doc said my body was ready for it. I went into early labor early morning of 40/1, water broke evening of 40/2 and had my boy early 40/3! Worked for me!!

I had my membranes swept at 40+3 and nothing happened that was a Friday I went in Monday morning and was still dilated to a 3 and hadn't had any contractions that i could actually feel (I had a nonstress test Sunday afternoon so I could see them on the screen but didn't feel anything).... I declined another sweep on Monday (yesterday) because my midwife said it rarely works on first time moms... It didn't really hurt but the pressure took my breath away.... If I had dilated more or had some contractions I might have done it again... I read somewhere that it only works  20% of the time 😒
