Are heart palpitations normal?

I've honestly never even heard of this until I stumbled upon it. I'm not sure what I noticed today. It was really like a sinking in my chest but I'm not for sure.. What exactly should you feel and is it normal?

They're pretty common in later pregnancy my midwife said.

I don't think they're "normal" but they are common from what I've been told. I started getting them my first year in college. I went to the nurse thinking I was having a heart attack or something and the nurse noticed my heart was beating and extra time. I was sent to a cardiologist who diagnosed me with palpation and arrhythmia and some other things but still said I was 100% healthy and it normally clears up on its own over time. That people in early 20s, mostly women, experience it often. They precribed me some medicine that calms it down.
