Should my husband and I adopt an older dog again even though it will brake our hearts?

My husband and I adopted an 8 year old begal and only had her for a year and a half before she died. We loved her so much and were devastated when she died. We will hopefully be adopting another dog in the new year but we aren't sure what to get. We definitely don't have the time or experience for a puppy. Originally we thought that a young adult dog (2 or 3) would be good so we could have a good few years with them. But the more I think about what we want in a dog...calm, low energy, already trained, good with cats and children....their aren't many young dogs like that but lots of older dogs. As much as we dont want to go through losing a dog again... That might be the right thing for us.
