cancelled his 1st bday party😭

Am I selfish? I’ve been so excited for this party for MONTHS, I had his theme picked out, decorations picked out that I was about to order, I knew what we would serve for food & desserts. But the second I asked my mom for something she started to control everything, she wanted a huge party that I really can’t afford right now, she wanted to change the theme, my food ideas, she wanted a big expensive venue, she started inviting people that are her friends & have nothing to do with my life

I got fed up and my husband was already irritated enough with the situation. I was soo stressed about this party and I talked to my husband & we decided it’d be best to save money and take him to an aquarium that’s two hours away & we could stay the night at a hotel. Now my mother is pissed & telling other family members that we have no money & that she had already waisted a lot of money when she hadn’t 🙃

She’s trying to convince me to do at least a small party at Peter piper pizza or at my house because it’s his 1st birthday & he should have memories of it

What should I do? She’s being so pushy about it & I really don’t want to do a party & neither does my husband. I’m so annoyed 😩
