40+4 and cervical scar tissue
I had my first sweep done on Friday and the midwife made comment on feeling scar tissue on my cervix.
I told her that I had a colposcopy last year and she advised this is what may have caused the scarring.
Being back home I have read up on dilation and scarring on the cervix and it appears it is harder to dilate if you have scarring on your cervix!
The midwife/doctor should offer to massage the cervix around 38 weeks to help dislodge old scar tissue.
I did mention to my midwife during the early weeks that I had this procedure done last year, but nothing is written in my notes.
I never knew about any of this, it’s not really spoken about anywhere (that I’ve seen), and the midwife hasn’t mentioned anything to me.
Feeling slightly frustrated, but glad I now had the sweep done on Friday as it should help a bit.
Turns out it can cause very long labours which are more likely to end in c section because you end up so tired.
