Being checked

Any ladies MW or obgyn tell you they won't check you unless high risk or ask to be checked? I was surprised bc both my sister's said they were checked without question at the last few weeks of there pregnancies. I wasn't dilated last week @ 38 weeks and I'm thinking it may be pointless to get checked tomorrow @ my 39 week appt. I'm due on Sunday and I don't think checking will make a difference now. It just bothered me they didn't seem the bit curious, I also was in preterm labor at 33.5 weeks so I thought they would have checked me often since then but didn't check me once till I asked.
