Does CPS have any actual jurisdiction?
I've seen a few posts here and other sites lately about CPS/Social Services, and it has me concerned.
Firstly, I have no children, and I am not pregnant. There is also zero reason for CPS to ever have any involvement with me or my family personally, I'm just curious about what exactly they are, and how they operate.
I had a family friend who had her children taken away after a false call from a neighbor about her kids playing near the road. The whole thing escalated and so many lies were twisted about physical and sexual abuse, by both the neighbor and the CPS workers themselves. (Eventually the CPS case workers involved ended up in jail for the whole thing because they admitted to lying about the parents)
I've also heard stories about children getting taken away after pregnant mothers getting positive results for marijuana or (get this) even having a large breed dog in the house.
I support the idea of protecting children from immediate serious dangers if it can be proven, but in the cases I mentioned above, they were still actually taken away for pretty much no reason other than speculation because the workers lied. I find this horrifying and concerning, which leads me to my question.
Does CPS have actual jurisdiction? Why are they allowed to just come take MY children away? (Again, personally I have no reason to fear CPS, but it honestly does scare me that anyone can lie about me and get my children taken). Am I allowed to not let them in my home, or even take physical measures to protect my property and my family? I feel like if something like this would happen to me, I would be sitting at my front door with a sword or something. Is CPS even legal?
I understand this might sound stupid, but I'm really questioning it. Surely no one is legally allowed to enter my home or kidnap a member of my family without consent or proof of illegal activity, right? This is all theoretical, but I'm sitting here fuming at this possibility 😭😠
