**EDIT: I appreciate the feedback y’all have given me but I am flat ass broke and I’m still a week out from a check so I can’t get any actual flea treatments just yet I do have the dawn dishsoap though I’ll give that a try tonight. I am more concerned about his little spaz attacks than anything else especially now since he fucked my finger up so bad it’s still super swollen and I can’t bend it.**
My cat has fleas but they aren’t super bad I just don’t have money for meds at the moment. That being said he sometimes freaks out and attacks his back which causes him to fall off of whatever he’s on (counter, table, bed, windowsill, etc.) and it worries me because they’ve been happening more and more often. Today I caught him in the middle of one because he was on my lap and he couldn’t help himself and immediately clamped onto my finger and got me reaaaaalllllllly good. Totally not his fault but I want to know if y’all have any idea what could be causing him to do this? I read something about a possible flea allergy but I’m not sure...

You really can’t scrape up $5 for some flea medication? If that’s the case then maybe you shouldn’t own an animal. Fleas are extremely annoying for an animal. Can you imagine having all those little bugs crawling all over your skin making you itch but not being able to pull them off. Please go spend the $5 on some medication for your animal.

About your update - when cats have fleas the itch can be pretty intense which is probably why he seems to be having random freak outs. Also the scratch on your finger might be infected, so keep it clean and wear gloves to protect your hands when bathing him 😊

Imagine if you had creepy crawly feelings and intense itching? That’s what’s he’s going through. 
He needs flea treatment and you need to treat the house.

Try bathing him as the other comment said and then you can also get a flea spray. Wondercide is my go-to and they have compact bottles for $10 or so. When you get paid or whatever you NEED to treat your cat and keep up with it, and if you can't afford it then you really have no business having an animal. I guarantee you the spazz attacks are from fleas. It's not just a few, it's not a small problem, they breed like rabbits and one becomes a dozen and then hundreds in an instant. It's only going to get worse unless you treat your cat and entire house.

Dawn dish soap does a fantastic job at killing fleas. Wash him good. Make sure you get a good layer on him let it sit to suffocate them and rinse him off. Do that once in the morning and once at night for 2 days and he should be golden! Make sure you keep up with fleas though they aren’t very fun!

If you don’t treat your cat and your house ASAP you’ll get an infestation and they’ll start biting you too. I get it, pets can be expensive but once you get a pet you need to be responsible. Do you at least have a flea comb? If so, give him a bath with a small amount of washing up liquid and warm water, and while he’s still wet comb all the fleas off of him. He isn’t going to like it if he has never had a bath before, so you’ll probably get scratched. Hoover your house all over, wash anything that he comes in to contact with and do this regularly until you can afford a treatment. Also make sure you buy a flea killing spray for around your house, because they’ll be living in your furniture and carpets.
