Sitting on Dads Lap

Is it appropriate for a teenage girl or older to sit in their fathers lap? a lot of people say stuff about it being weird and inappropriate after a certain age. What are your thoughts on this?

edit: just wanted to say that I personally sit on my fathers lap and don't find it weird or inappropriate.
