Parents being told by the school what they can and cannot pack their kids for food
Where I live parents are required to pack a snack and lunch for their children. We don’t have cafeteria until high school and even then its very limited. This is big city, but Canada.
My gf was given a list of acceptable and none acceptable foods to send with your child to school. I’m not talking no peanuts I’m talking specifics.
For sure example. Chips and granola bars are not ok. They will be sent home with a note telling them and their parents why they need to follow the healthy eating plan etc.
They suggest things like fresh fruit, sandwich’s etc.
No chocolate or candy. No juice boxes (other than the ones listed) etc.
Now. I personally find this to go too far. I have a very picky kid and I’m just happy he eats some days. I also don’t think they are respecting the fact that not everyone can afford fresh produce every week. Sometimes the granola bar is needed.
What do you think? Would you be ok with this?
In a perfect world I think school aged children would be provided lunch and snacks at the school. This way we know everyone is fed. I know that sounds easier than done.
