Any scientists out there?

Question

Just found out I'm pregnant (4 weeks) and happen to work with Chemicals... Has anyone any experience of lab work when pregnant? I was burning lithium (amongst other substances) the other day before I knew I was pregnant and am now worried!!

hi Ammut,
I am chemist too and I am working with radioisotope. I had a similar reaction when I knew I was pregnant. I did call directly the GP for an appointment and they advice me that all was fine. 
I you worked safely, there is no problem at such early stage. You will need to do your risks assessment ASAP to know exactly what you can or cannot do to avoid any issue for your baby!
Congratulations! I know it is not easy to be pregnant when you are chemist :)

I am a chemist as well. I made sure I told my work as soon as I found out I was pregnant because I do try and limit my exposure and avoid some procedures. I sometimes trade tasks with my lab mates so no one feels like they are picking up my slack.

You are so early that you are not applying anything to your baby yet.  The yolk sac and placenta will do that until the placenta is large enough to start actual exchange with your blood.  Your fine for now. 
I bought a double filter respirator mask that works for particulate matter and vocs that I wear when I go to the chem closet or am using organics.
