Bacterial vaginosis?

I am 9 weeks pregnant and went to the ER today because of burning and itching. The doctor did a pelvic exam and said my cervix was irritated probably because of bacterial vaginosis. I was prescribed flagyl pills. They did not take a swab. My obgyn is closed today and I am leaving for japan for 2 weeks tomorrow morning. Is it normal to diagnose BV just from a pelvic exam?

Yep. They can take a swab and put it under the microscope and see. Also when you put this drop on it, the slide has a certain odor that tells you it's b.v.
