What's up with the side snap shirts?

Is there something I'm missing? Does it make life with a newborn easier somehow? I assumed long sleeved mittened onsies under swaddles and zip up sleep n plays would be best. Help! First time boy mom. Thanks!

No snap is a good snap. Zippers only.

I used these before his belly button fell off so it could breathe...He was born in July so just a diaper and one of these shirts was warm enough during the day

I personally dont like anything with snaps. I feel like zippers are easiest with a newborn

I like these for newborns because you don't have to put it off and on over the head and the diaper is more accessible. The only downside is the top of the chest is a little exposed so not good for a very chilly room. 
The snap up the side full body jammies are an absolute nightmare. But these shirts are ok because in the middle of the night, you're not likely to be changing the shirt anyhow and this makes diaper changing easy.

Babies, particular newborns usually hate having clothes put on over their heads and it can be very hard to dress them without these. X

I generally only see snaps like these on tops and onesies, and I believe it is so that in the event of a blow out,  you don't have to pull the poopy clothes up and over baby's head/face,  you can pull them down instead.

I’m not a snap fan at all. Middle of the night changes and squirmy newborns are better with zippers for sure. Unfortunately my little one got a broken arm at birth so the first month of his life he only could wear the side snap hospital shirts. We had to strap his arm down and keep it still. He’s 5 weeks - healing good- and can finally wear normal clothes. We’ve just been putting zip up jammies on though cause still nervous about putting his arm in.
