When is too long to wait for a ring

So I’ve been in a relationship for the same man for 15 years we have 2 kids 11 and 6. And there’s still no ring on my finger I don’t know how much longer I can wait. I honestly just don’t see a great future with him anymore he’s a good father and work but this man has no savings,no car, no credit, we live in a apartment with dreams of living in a house but I feel like I’m the only one trying to make a future. We don’t have the greatest relationship or we could just be normal because we’ve been together for so long we go days without talking because we are fighting. I guess my real question is should I stay in a relationship basically for the sake of the kids and we’ve been together for so long but I’m also 32 and want to get married some day but also fear that I’m staying in a relationship that has no future.

I don’t think he’s just suddenly going to propose after 15 years together unless you two have a talk about it. It also sounds like getting married might not be the best idea if you aren’t sure about a future together.
I think you two need to have some serious discussions about your lives together and what you both see for your futures.

Never stay in an unhappy relationship just because you have children together. They will learn that’s the norm and I’m sure you wouldn’t want the same for them. Have a serious talk with him and if things don’t change, leave. It’s the best thing you can do for you and your children.

With how you describe it, I would choose to go to being roommates with him and start dating other people. Your relationship is mediocre at best and you seem to have different goals and ambitions for your future. You've been together 15 years and no advancement up the relationship escalator other than kids. I doubt he has any intentions to get married. Why should he? And if you fight like that, why should you?

We were engaged after dating for less than two years (living together for about one of those years). 
He’s never going to propose. He doesn’t need to, he’s happy with how things are. If having at least a small wedding, and a plan to start saving for a home would make you happy enough to want to stay then you need to sit down and have a serious conversation about those things with him. 
The way you’re describing things though I feel like you already know you want to leave. If you are looking forward to dating and trying to create the life you want with someone else then I think you should just follow your gut.

I wouldn't marry someone if I was the only one trying to make "our" goals happen. Marriage also is something you should have discussed at the beginning of the relationship.
