Brothers pt.18

Vance was in the closet looking for something & he yelled out to Leila who was in the other room.

Vance: Babe, have you seen my belt?

Leila: Not sure.

Vance looked through his hanging clothes to see if he had left the belt around one of the pant loops. Nothing. He checked the bins on the shelves. As he was moving things around, the envelope with Leila’s letter to James fell to the ground. He ran his fingers over the shelves to feel for his belt & then he stepped in the envelope. He reached down & picked the envelope up. Leila came walking in.

Leila: Did you find your...

She saw Vance with the envelope in his hand.

Vance: What’s this?

Leila: I... I can explain. Please don’t open it.

Vance proceeds to open the envelope. Leila couldn’t believe this was happening.

Vance: To the One who owns my heart...

He read the rest of the letter & grabbed Leila to hold her. She was confused at first, but glad he wasn’t angry. She realized that she the letter had no mention of James & that it was safe to say the letter could’ve been for Vance. And that’s exactly what he thought of the letter.

Vance: Honey, I know I’ve been so busy with work related things. Thank you for being so understanding.

He kisses her forehead & holds her close. Leila lets out a sigh of relief. She needed to be more careful to keep her feelings for James hidden.

Vance later met with his brother over a round of golf.

Vance: Thanks for meeting me, bro.

James(semi-sarcastic): Hey, what are brothers for?

Vance: I’ve been giving it a lot of thought in who to have stand by me at the altar. And I’d really like for you to be my best man.

James dreaded the thought of taking the front row sear so to speak to the marriage of his brother to the love of his life. But a deal is a deal. He knew not to cross his father or break a deal made with him.

Vance: What do you say? Will you be my best man?

James: Yeah, I’ll be your best man.
