When is the right time to ask for a professional opinion ?

My mom and a lot of other influences in my life say that “it will happen when it happens” what if I’m not even able to get pregnant and we’ve wasted 5 years ? When is the right time to seek medical help!

I think after 4 months for > 35, after 6 months for > 30, and after 9 months for < 30 is a good time to start scheduling an appointment. There can be a couple month wait to even get an appointment as a new patient. They can start with basic lab work, ultrasound, and an HSG. The HSG can increase your chance of pregnancy for 3 months afterward without fertility medication. Maybe they find something that would predispose you to infertility and should be treated early (such as diet and exercise or metformin for PCOS). They can answer your questions and you will already be set up with someone who knows you if you do need fertility treatments down the line.

Everyone said the same thing to me. An unrelated mri prompted my gyno to do an ultrasound on me which showed thin uterine lining. The thin lining prompted a blood test which showed low progesterone and she referred me to a reproductive endocrinologist. I went through with that testing which ended up showing I wasn’t ovulating in my own. I had only been trying 4 months but thank goodness I pushed for testing because it could have been a full year of disappointments.

We tried for 6months and seeked help. I was 27 but my point was, it's better to get tested earlier than waiting for 1year and getting tested. If something comes out wrong than I have already wasted 1 year. I told my doctor that I tried for 1year

My OBGYN told me one year. After the year, she had me do three cycles of clomid. My third cycle of clomid resulted in a chemical. I started seeing a specialist 6 months later.
