I think MIL stole from us
We had a gift card on the nightstand on my husband’s side of the bed and today we noticed it was gone. I tore up the bedroom looking for it because it was meant to be used for our groceries today. It is nowhere to be found.
Coincidentally, my MIL was here yesterday watching my son while I studied. The only time I left was when I went to go pick up food for all of us (she even gave me her debit card to pay for it). What gave me the impression that someone was in my bedroom? We have a smart bulb that controls the fan light. The switch stays on due to said smart bulb. Me and my husband are both aware that that switch is meant to stay in the on position, it is NEVER touched. Unless she is over at our apartment.
And I know the question of “why does she even have access to the bedroom?” Or “why not just lock the bedroom?” comes up. Well... it’s a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment. The bathroom is connected to the master bedroom and the living room. I can lock the master bedroom door BUT I can’t lock the bathroom door from the bedroom. WHY SHOULD I EVEN HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS?!
I’m super upset. My husband was the one that asked “did you leave the apartment when she was there?” And I did. There was a silence in the air before he said “I think she took it.”
I wish it was as easy as just not having her over. Or never leave the apartment while she’s here. I rely on her assistance so I can get my assignments done. I signed up for flex courses this semester (which basically are 8 week courses instead of 16 - you gotta work twice as fast) and I have a one month old that loves cuddles and affection. If we could afford a sitter to hire we absolutely would because sadly at this point I would trust a stranger more than her. I would at least have the common knowledge to not have things like money in clear view, I should be able to have the piece of mind of not having to worry about my MIL snooping in our bedroom. I know I’m going pretty hard into her but I’m serious, we told her not to use our bedroom door to get to the bathroom and 30 minutes later. Waltzes into our room as if we were talking to the damn wall.
Okay. I got it off my chest. Now I know I have to hide shit in my own apartment 🤬
