Super fast unexpected breech vaginal delivery
So this is my second and nothing about this delivery went how anyone thought. I went in for my 36 week appointment which was actually at 35+3 weeks. I had been having mild random contractions for weeks so asked my doc to check if I was dialated after she did the ultrasound to see what position he was in. Well to our surprise he was breech and I was already 4 cm dilated and 50% effaced. We discussed doing an external cephalic version if he hadn't flipped by my appointment the following Wednesday or otherwise would do a csection. I really didn't want a csection. Well the whole week I felt like he had dropped and was so nervous I'd go into labor before my next appointment. I was so excited when I made it to 36 weeks. At 3:24am that next morning, I woke up to a pretty intense contraction. I had been having them periodically so thought I'd wait to see if I had anymore before waking my husband. Well after 3 that were increasing in intensity and shorter intervals, I woke my husband. He was freaking out and tried calling my sister to come watch our 3 year old but noone answered. I threw pants on and grabbed my toothbrush and headed downstairs. I got to the bottom and had a contraction that took my breath away. At that point I realized we weren't going to make it to the hospital because my water broke. I told my husband to call 911 and then had to lay on the landing of my stairs because I couldn't stand anymore. The 911 operator talked us through it and I had my son breech at 4:10 am, only 45 minutes after my first contraction. The EMTs showed up a minute later to take us to the nearest hospital which was not where I had planned to deliver or recover. Thankfully he was healthy and only required getting warm once we got there. We stayed in the hospital for 2 days and were both released home. I'm so thankful that everything worked out how it did. My 3 year old slept through the whole thing! He was born 5lbs 2 oz and 19.25 in long.
