How do you teach your child to hold it for a short time when they have to go pee?

Okay so my house only has one bathroom. My three year old has been potty trained for about 2 or 3 months now and is doing great. My issue is my husband is the absolute worst to share a bathroom with. He literally takes forever and we always ask before he goes in if she has to use the potty but she’ll say no and then ten minutes in say she has to pee. It’s super annoying because at that point I know he’s gonna be another twenty minutes which already irritates me because who in the hell takes that long to go to the bathroom but I don’t know how to teach her to hold it or if that’s even good to do. Anyone else have this issue with only one bathroom?

It's hard for them at that age to hold it and usually by the time they tell you they have already held it a lil while so they can keep playing that they cant hold it anymore. Maybe get a potty for times like this if theres only one bathroom. And keep it in a closet or something till she needs it :)

I leave the door unlocked when I’m in the bathroom in case my little one has to go while I’m in there. She has a special seat on the toilet but her potty chair is also in there in case she needs to use it while I’m on the toilet. If he’s going to take that long, he’ll just have to get used to her walking in. Kids that young really can’t hold it. Maybe he needs to see a doctor if using the toilet takes that long. Sheesh! Is he doing other stuff in there?

It's not really good for anybody to hold it, let alone a kid. Others have given you good suggestions, leave the door unlocked or get a little potty. Would hate for your toddler to get any infections because she was trying to hold it.

That is weird. Would totally be having him make a doctor appointment. Also kids that young cant really hold it. Maybe get a little potty for her to use for times like these.

My husband does this ALL the time! I bug him that he's going to be in there for an hour. He gets all "no! Not an hour" I'm like "k, 45 mins" legit takes 45 mins after work.
But it's because he works construction and can't at work, and he's tired from standing all day.
Could you either tell him to let her in to go really quick (my husband had to do this the first while my daughter was being potty trained) or have a potty in her room or somewhere and tell her it's only when daddys in the bathroom.

Kids this young should not be having to "hold it", it can cause urinary issues. Like others said, a back up potty is a better idea.

I would recommend what everyone else is saying, you might wanna get her a little potty for emergencies. But honestly if you really need to you could hold her over the sink to pee 😆

Get her her own potty. We have one at home, and one in the car for when we’re not near a bathroom. Comes in handy when all there ya ya nasty park is gas station bathrooms 👍🏼
